The Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council (TRAHC) Annual Student Juried Exhibition will be on display for the public on May 20 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Multiple awards ranging from Best of Show to the People’s Choice Award will be given to the worthy artists. The Exhibition dates are from May 20 – June 24 for people to stop by and observe.

Students from Texas High submitted upward of two works each for a chance to win cash prizes and gain recognition for their art. Many chose to enter pieces they’ve worked on throughout previous months leading up to the event.

“I entered my art pieces that I’ve recently done because it’s my best work,” freshman Ashanti Mitchell said. “People want to show off their best art, and this show will definitely be exciting for me.”

During the preparation for the event, students created their artworks tailored to their own desires. Many artists eagerly participate in these limited art contests to show their range of skills. The meaning behind their artwork is shown and portrayed to the judge for a chance to place and win money.

“My art is about the deterioration of artwork due to destruction, and my message is to try and preserve that,” sophomore McKenzie Brown said. “I don’t get the chance to be in art contests very often, so I appreciate the opportunity to show my creativity on a canvas.”

Feedback from spectators in the gallery allow the student artists to gain recognition for their much deserved hard work.

“It’s rewarding when you work hard on a piece and you hear people talking about how much they like the art or they understand the meaning of it,” Mitchell said. “I appreciate those who say kind things to others concerning art since it’s so subjective.”
