Do what you love, love what you do

Junior urges others to pursue fulfilling careers

Story by Connor Brooks, staff writer

My personal goal is to find something I like to do and do it as a job for the rest of my life. This might seem ridiculous at first glance. How can working be enjoyable? How can doing what you love be considered a job? What kind of job would a person actually have a good time doing? These are all questions we ask ourselves when this topic is brought up.

Frankly, an enjoyable job to someone might not be fulfilling to someone else, but loving a job depends on an individual’s skill set, likes and interests. This is the main part that people are confused with during this discussion.

For example, one might say that being a surgeon is the most wonderful job anyone could ever have because it pays well and you could buy almost anything you ever wanted. However, another person could have a different opinion and would rather be a politician because they can have more of an impact on the community that they live in by creating new laws.

Everyone’s opinion on “fun” is so vastly different. Finding your niche in life is one of the biggest things humans try to do and it is one of the most difficult things to search for.

A successful future is what people are aiming for, but people have to start searching for their “why” in life at a young age. Do what you have to do so you can do what you want to do has always been something that has been implemented into my life, and this exemplifies the mindset that every human being should have so they can enjoy their jobs and lives in general for the future.

This summer was the first time I have had a “real job,” where I worked at Schlotzsky’s and I actually enjoyed it. This isn’t where I want to work for the rest of my life, by any means, but producing a good work ethic at a young age is essential for a successful life.

By working this summer, I got a sense of independence from earning my own money. This gave me a feeling of accomplishment. It was nice to get to work with people that I wouldn’t know otherwise, while working to achieve the same goal of good service.  I feel like I should constantly assess myself to find out my personal abilities so that I can achieve my highest possible potential. Personally, this is one of my goals in life and I feel like more people should take this to heart.
