The National Scholastic Press Association has named the Tiger Times as a finalist for the Pacemaker award. Winners will be announced for the first time at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention on Nov. 13 in Kansas City.
“At the first of the year, our staff set two goals, one being to earn a Gold Star and the other to make the Pacemaker list,” former co-editor in chief Marian Hill said. “Reaching these goals is such an amazing feeling. It validates all the effort and time we devoted to the paper. I can’t wait to see the end result, but I could not be more proud of our staff and our paper.”
The NSPA Newspaper Pacemaker contest is co-sponsored by the Newspaper Association of America Foundation. Entries were judged based on the following criteria: coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, and layout and design.
