Secondary headline: Ten students advance to UIL regional meet

Pencil to paper. Fingers to keys. Mind to work.

Students competed at the UIL Academic district meet in Hallsville on March 24. The school placed fourth overall and had ten students advance to the regional meet at Prosper High School on April 13-14.

The UIL program’s top performer was the Social Studies team, which is looking to make another run at the state meet after placing second at state last year. All four members placed in the top six to earn first place as a team for district.

“Right now, looking at the scores, it looks like we can place first in regionals which would take us to state,” senior Caleb LeGrand said. “Everyone seems to be really excited about it, so we’re just looking forward to the next meet.”

The Journalism, Speech and Debate teams also performed collectively well while individuals in Current Issues and Events and Ready Writing also stood out. All who advanced have begun to ramp up the pace as they prepare for the upcoming regional meet.

“Whenever I get the chance, I check the news and read some articles to keep up with current events,” senior Corbin Hamilton said. “I definitely want to make it to state, and I think that I have what it takes to do it.”
