The Tigersharks and Lady Tigersharks returned to the water Jan. 7 for a tri meet against the Nacogdoches Dragons and Lufkin Panthers.
Eleven athletes posted individual victories, while the boys’ team overall showed a convincing victory with 256 points, NHS second with 160 points, and Lufkin third with 100 points on the boys’ side. The Lady Tigersharks also won with 272 points, while Nacogdoches was a distant second with 151 points, and Lufkin third with 87 points.
The Lady Tigersharks showed depth in the different strokes, claiming victory in all but one event out of eleven.
The ladies’ relay victories included the 200 Individual Medley Relay team of Ashton Stafford (10), Madeleine Pellegrin (10), Chelsea Albright (12) and Kristian Lewis (12); the 200 Free Relay Team of Lewis, Autumn Sehy (11), Amy McCoy (11), and Elizabeth Cook (12); and the 400 Relay team of Lauren Caswell (12), Albright, McCoy and Cook.
Six different individuals contributed victories in the other women’s events including Cook in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle, Albright (200 IM), Lewis (50 Free), Caswell (500 Free), Stafford (100 Back) and Pellegrin (100 Breaststroke).
Other top 5’s were earned by Caswell (second) and Brittany Shipp (11) (third) in the 200 Free; Katelyn Dobbins (10) (fourth) in the 200 IM; McCoy (third) and Sehy (fourth) in the 50 yard freestyle; Albright (second), Pellegrin (fourth) and Dobbins (fifth) in the 100 yard butterfly; McCoy (second) and Sehy (fourth) in 100 yard free; Kyndal Goodwin (12) (second) and Angela Derrick (10) (fourth) in 500 yard free; Derrick (second) and Oralia Basurto-Ruiz (9) (fourth) in the 100 yd backstroke; Goodwin (third) and Maggie Lopez (9) (fifth) in the 100 yard breaststroke.
The boys’ team had a tougher competition, but still managed victories in seven out of 11 events. Relay victories included John David Goins (11), Collin Hall (12), Matt Cox (12), and Zach Baker (10) in the 200 Medley Relay and Nick Sehy (11), Goins, Brennan Hile (10), and Erubiel Basurto-Ruiz (12) in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Individual victories were earned by Cox in both the 50 freestyle and 100 yard butterfly, and Sehy (200 Free), Zack Derrick (11) in the 500 free and Goins (100 Back).
Other Top 5 contributors included Zack Derrick (second) and Erubiel Basurto-Ruiz (third) in 200 free; Stevy Flowers (12) (third), Rusty Anglin (11) (fourth) and Davis Payne (11) (fifth) in the 200 IM; Baker (fourth) and Travis Whitfield (12) (fifth) in 50 Free; Chris Radomski (10) (second) and Hile (third) in 100 butterfly; Nick Sehy (third), Erubiel Basurto-Ruiz (fourth) and Whitfield (fifth) in 100 free; Payne (second) and Noah Woolery (10) (fourth) in the 500 free; Anglin (second) and Zack Norton (9) (third) in the 100 backstroke, and Hall (second), Baker (third), and Josh Klein (10) (fifth) in the 100 yard breaststroke.
The Tigersharks travel to Keller for a dual meet with Timber Creek Saturday for their last meet before the district championships at the end of this month.
