Crazy. Baffling. Not what I expected. These are just a few reactions that describe week four of the NFL. Every season has its twists and turns, and this season isn’t any different–from the reigning champs, the New England Patriots, losing once again, to Deshaun Watson setting the rookie record for passing touchdowns, to the Chiefs being the only undefeated team.

New England Loses on Last Second Field Goal:

The New England Patriots: the team with a 28-3 comeback in the Super Bowl led by the proclaimed “greatest quarterback of all time,” Tom Brady. Most experts predicted that New England would do as good, if not better, than they did the previous season. However, the team has struggled and they’ve dropped to a record of 2-2 after a loss to the Carolina Panthers on a last second field goal Sunday night. Their lack of a run game, their offensive line, and their under-performing defense are three key factors in their two losses this season. While the previous issues are important, their defensive play is the largest flaw that needs to be corrected. With the addition of Stephon Gilmore to a secondary that already includes All-Pros, Malcolm Butler and Devin McCourty, one would only expect the team to improve. Unfortunately for the team, the defense just hasn’t lived up to the hype which is costing them games that normally would go down as a victory. However, despite the team’s struggles, you can’t count them out until their season is finished. New England still has the players and the personnel to get to the Super Bowl, they’ll just have to address their issues and resolve them before it’s too late.

Deshaun Watson Sets Record for the Most Passing Touchdowns in a Game by a Rookie:

Deshaun Watson, the rookie quarterback from Clemson who is fresh off a National Championship victory against Alabama, tied the record for the most touchdowns (five) in a game by a rookie quarterback. As I have stated in a previous article“There’s Always A Tomorrow,” the Houston Texans were seen as possible AFC champions this season because of their addition of the young quarterback, Watson. Although the Texans struggled earlier in the season, if their offense can keep doing what they did Sunday and their star-studded defense can stay healthy, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be considered a legitimate threat in the AFC.

The Kansas City Chiefs Are the Only Team Left That is Undefeated:

16-0,  a perfect season,  is something every team strives for. After the Atlanta Falcons lost to the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City became the only team to not have lost a game this season. As I have previously stated in “Ascending Chiefs, Descending Patriots,” Kansas City currently has the best running game, according to statistics, which is a big reason as to why they are winning. Despite their loss of All-Pro safety, Eric Berry, Kansas City’s defense is playing like a top NFL defense as well. There doesn’t seem to be many flaws in this team and as of now, they look as if they’re the top dog in the AFC. The Chiefs are currently 3-0 and have a game tonight against the Washington Redskins so all of the “undefeated” hype could end in the blink of an eye, however, that most likely won’t happen because Kansas City is expected to come out with the win. If the Chiefs continue playing the way they’ve been playing, they’re on their way to being AFC champs.
