A crowd of orange jerseys and pom-poms filed into the PAC yesterday, exchanging high-fives and shouts, all echoing the same thing. Texas High is proud of Tevailance Hunt.

On Nov. 30, the American Family Insurance Selection Tour visited Texas High to congratulate Hunt on his selection for the 2018 All America Under Armour game.

“We’re going on our tenth year [of the All America game]. The game itself is on Jan. 4, 2018, in Orlando, Florida, at the Camping World Stadium,” selection tour representative Nickloas Bradley said. “It’s an amazing time for the student athletes, lots of great coaches will be down there to assist in the teaching of football skills. It’s a great time for the student athletes to compete and get to know each other.”

The All America game brings together top student athletes from around the country. Hunt is one of 90 students who are participating in the event. Some athletes that have participated in this game in the past have gone on to have professional football careers.

“Former selections include NFL pro ball wide receivers Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons and AJ Green of Cincinnati Bengals, in addition to 10 first round draft selections in the 2017 NFL draft,” Bradley said. “Current college stars like Florida State’s Derwin James, Alabama’s Bo Scarbrough, and Texas A&M’s Christian Kurt have also participated in this game.”

Hunt was presented with an honorary game jersey commemorating his selection.

“I would like to thank my fellow brothers for voting,” Hunt said, motioning to the football team. “And our wonderful cheerleaders and Highsteppers, and the rest of the community, I thank y’all for everything, because without y’all, I wouldn’t be here.”

American Family Insurance also presented the American Insurance DREAM Champion Award.

“The student athlete being recognized today is living his dream every day,” Bradley said. “This would not be possible without a strong support system. So we’d like to also recognize Mr. Kyle Dickerson with the American Family Insurance DREAM Champion Award.”

The community that voted for Hunt can continue to support him by liking his player profile on the All America game Instagram account (@allamericagame).

“Awards like this don’t happen by themselves,” head football Coach Stanford said. “It truly takes a village. The amount of votes, the amount of support on Friday nights from all of you, from fans, parents, cheerleaders, and Highsteppers, and the team. But most of all it took a lot of hard work by Tevailance. It took a lot of character on his part to work through adversity in his own life to be able to get to a point like this where many of you dream to achieve. The biggest accomplishment is that it really takes a village. It’s amazing to see this community drawn together by kids like Tevailance.”
