The swim team made the trek to Frisco Dec. 7-8 to compete in the North Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association 5A meet. The Tigersharks competed against 600 swimmers from across the state.

“The meet went very well with the boys, with 13 qualified to attend the meet, finishing second only to the home school group out of Houston,” head coach Eric Vogan said. “The girls, with only six, finished 22nd. All 18 swimmers qualified to swim on Saturday (in finals), either in individual events or relays. There were 56 total schools in the meet, all 5A.”

The boys had a strong showing in both the preliminaries and finals. Senior Robert Frost had an above-average meet, competing in the 200 Medley, 50 free, 100 free, and 400 freestyle relay.

“I feel I did really well in prelims but made a few mistakes in finals,” Frost said. “I swam some new best times in my events at preliminaries, but unfortunately at finals I didn’t do as well as I wanted.”

The girls continue to improve with district looming ahead. The girls 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay both made finals. Sophomore Fezeka Barnes placed 12th in the 50 yard free, and junior Haley Wood placing 11th in the 100 yard breast.

“I think I swam hard in prelims and finals, though I feel like I could have given a little more in the 100 fly,” Barnes said. “I didn’t swim any best times, but that’s something I hope to change going into the qualifying meets.”

Now that TISCA is over, the Tigersharks have one more dual meet—J.J. Pearce—before they set off for district competition. Both the boys and girls alike feel confident that they can improve and perform well after the previous meets of the season.

“Now that we only have about a month until district and regionals, I am very motivated to push myself in practice in order to improve and get my times down to where they need to be,” Barnes said.

Many swimmers hope to attempt to break school records in the ensuing meets this year. The Tigersharks also hope to push so that they can win a banner at the state meet in February.

“I was very pleased with the performance, and am looking for some great swims over the next couple of months,” Vogan said. “We have not tapered yet for any meets this year, so (I am) looking for outstanding performances when we do.”
