Common pool practices come with serious risks

American summers are often spent poolside with steaks on the grill and lemonade-filled cups. Children start off in their floaties, splashing around next to their parents and crying when water gets on their faces. Then, as they get older, they evolve to the rambunctious kids who get whistled at every few minutes for running around the pool to dive into the water. The thrill of plunging into the water is not only a recreational activity; competitive diving continues to be a growing sport in the United States.
