On Jan. 9, 2026, singer and producer Bruno Mars released the track “I Just Might,” a sneak peek of his first solo album in 10 years. Mars released a new studio album titled “The Romantic” on Feb. 27.
This album, inspired by Mars’ Puerto Rican roots, composes boleros and mariachi elements with a classical romantic theme, all while reviving the retro-soul and funk elements mostly used in the ‘70s. Many students hold different opinions on this album and how it compares to Mars’ old ones.
“His old albums felt more like a party vibe,” senior Charles Robinson said. “This one makes you want to find that special person and build a connection with them.”
One of Mars’ most popular songs in the album, “Risk It All,” drew many views and comments on TikTok, generating excitement about his use of the Hispanic tones and style that makes some people want to slow dance.
“I liked his song ‘Risk It All,’” sophomore Jordin Lewis said. “I feel like this song is a new type of style for him; it matches the year 2026.”
Although Mars incorporated a new genre of music into this album, his signature dialogue and romantic elements remained the same, given the success of his past songs.
“The way he sings about things reminds me of his older songs,” junior Natalie Tullos said. “The yearning mood he usually puts in his songs was a lot of what this new album contains.”
Another popular track from this new album, “I Just Might,” has received attention since its early release, causing listeners to form an emotional connection with the song.
“My favorite song from the album is ‘I Just Might,’” Robinson said. “I’ve listened to it every morning since it was released.”
After the emotional trauma, political conflicts and potential fighting the world already suffered this year, Mars’ lively, good-feeling album during these hard times comforts people with the peace that will come.
“I loved Bruno’s new album so much,” Robinson said. “A lot of us needed to hear his energy and voice.”
