Dancers spin across the stage with pride as the lights go up, marking the beginning of the final performance of the year. On Apr. 24 and 25, 2026, the Texas HighSteppers performed their annual Spring Show in the Sullivan Performing Arts Center. The performance captivated audiences with its creative and thought-provoking theme, “The Games We Play”. The performance combined high-energy choreography with intentional storytelling, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who attended the show.
“My favorite part of Spring Show this year was getting to dance with my favorite team and having a super successful show,” senior captain Meredith McPhaul said. “I’m so proud of how it turned out and that we were able to bring Mrs. Reynolds’ vision to life.”
The show featured a variety of routines inspired by both literal games and the metaphorical challenges people explore and work through in everyday life. From playful, upbeat numbers to more emotional performances, each piece highlighted the complexity of life, relationships and personal growth. Carefully crafted music, sparkly costumes and precise formations enhanced the overall show, which emphasized the team’s dedication and talent.
“My favorite costume is definitely my squad costume,” senior lieutenant Nyreah Chatman said. “I loved the bold red gloves contrasting with the black costume.”
This year’s show marked the end of a beautiful chapter for many seniors. Though some plan to pursue dance in the future, it will be in a different role than they are used to.
“I don’t plan to go into a dance team,” McPhaul said. “However, I do hope to work in a studio teaching younger dancers, or maybe take an elective class in college.”
The bond within the team allowed unity and hard work to shine through, ultimately bringing the show to life. For the rookie dancers, this experience felt both challenging and rewarding.
“Even though it was really tiring putting in all that work. I’m glad I pushed through,” freshman Aliyah Davis said. “The outcome was definitely worth the work.”
The 2026 Spring Show served as more than just entertainment. More importantly, it served as a celebration of teamwork, perseverance and self-discovery. By exploring the idea of games in a deeper context, the drill team delivered a performance that resonated with both participants and audience members alike.
“It was very gut-wrenching knowing that this was my last time performing with the team,” Chatman said. “For the past three years, the team has been my everything.”
