On Jan. 23, 2026, the Tiger Theatre Company (TTC) faced devastating news. Due to the recent forecast of potential winter storms in the area, TTC decided that they needed to cancel their performances of Winnie the Pooh this weekend in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the cast, crew, directors and patrons.
Due to the fact that students worked on this show for months, several cast members felt extremely disappointed when they heard the news.
“I [am] actually really upset since it is my first show having a named role, especially since it’s a really fun role,” junior David Morales-Simon said. “[However], I understand the weather could be dangerous for the theatre goers.”
Although the cast and crew of Winnie the Pooh will not be able to perform their production for the public this weekend, they hosted two shows during the school day for children across Texarkana Independent School District.
“I’m very glad that we at least got to do the shows for the kids, and got to introduce them to the arts [because] that’s what children’s plays are meant for,” junior Jillian Brim said. “I think [the kids] definitely loved the show and it was worth it to perform for them and hear all of their laughter.”
Senior Charles Robinson, who plays the role of Winnie in the production, felt an immense sense of gratitude for the time he spent playing the role, even though it got cut short.
“It [felt] amazing being a lead because this character means a lot to me,”Robinson said. “[During the show] I was very happy and [I] loved seeing all [of the] little kids. I saw a younger [version of] me when I looked at them.”
Not going down without a fight, the Tiger Theatre Company made the decision to reschedule their performances.
“Due to us having to cancel [our shows] this weekend, we will be performing next Saturday,” senior Ava Harrison said. “I feel like Winnie the Pooh is a huge experience in a lot of people’s childhood, and I was really happy that we got to still perform for all the elementary schools [this week].”
The rescheduled performance for Winnie the Pooh will take place on Jan. 31, 2026 at 7:00P.M. in the Sullivan Performing Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased on ttc.ths.booktix.com, or patrons may buy them at the door.
“My favorite part of [theater] is being able to do the show with a lot of friends and build relationships with them,” Robinson said. “To be honest, a lot of us needed the break, especially the directors and the cast members, so it doesn’t hurt that much [that we had to reschedule our shows].”
