Songs of praise will soon fill the air as students gather around the flagpole to pray, worship, and give testimonies at the annual See You At The Pole event at Texas High School. Each year millions of students across the nation come together to pray for their school and community on the fourth Wednesday of September.
“At the pole, I always think it’s fun to just see kids from all over come together and just be able to enjoy the freedoms of our country and express their faith,” Student Council Director Susan Waldrep said. “They actually had a See You at the Pole back when I was in school and so I would just focus on a particular issue and then concentrate on that.”
Many students give testimonies about how their faith impacts their lives.
“You don’t even have to have any of the same beliefs,” Waldrep said. “It’s a place where everyone is welcome.”
See You At The Pole began in 1990 with a youth group in Burelson, Texas. Over the years, the event has grown into a global phenomenon. The goal of the event is to show that hearts can be changed and to help students become more effective in sharing their faith in their community and school.
“ Even through all of the hard stuff we go through, we can still come together as a school and support one another and grow in our relationship with the Lord,” junior Hayden Henry said.
More than two million students participate in this global event every year. This specific occasion is a very important time for some, with the event seeking to offer truth, hope, love to everyone.
“Anytime I’ve gone, it’s always helped me get closer to people,” sophomore Isabelle Harmon said. “I think it helps people get closer to God as well.”
The Light Club will host this event on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:45 a.m. at the Texas High flagpole. Anyone from the school is encouraged to attend.
“It’s just an important thing to get all of the students together and not be judged.” Greg Brush said. “We’re trying to get students together and grow in their faith.”
