As students walk across the brightly lit stage with a smile, they reminisce on the hard work and dedication they put into the awards that they received.
Texas High held the annual Academic Awards Assembly on Thursday, May 8, at the Sullivan Performing Arts Center. A number of different awards were given out to students, such as the Heart of a Tiger award, Top award and certification certificates.
The assembly celebrates and promotes each student’s academic and personal development while encouraging them to continue using their skills in the future.
“This event is just a great way to recognize students and their achievements,” assistant principal Dr. Jacquelyn Smith said. “And it’s not only academic, but it showcases the whole student.”
The assembly wasn’t just an award-receiving event for these students, it became a turning point in their academic journey by motivating them to push forward.
“I got my AED and CPR certification and academic achievement award for woodwind ensemble,” sophomore Elizabeth Harmon said. “These awards show me how hard I worked and that hard work pays off.”
While applauding the student’s accomplishments, this event also motivates all the kids to step up in their academics and encourage other students to do so.
“I think any time you have positive praise, you know you’re doing something well,” assistant principal Erin Davis said. “Then, it gives you lots of fire for you to do even better after that.”
The admin at Texas High takes pride in not only the students’ achievements but also the efforts taken behind the scenes. As the students were acknowledged for their accomplishments, the small, heartfelt things left the biggest impression on everyone.
“I am most proud of the students’ hard work and dedication,” Smith said. “It makes it all worthwhile when you get to see them walk across the stage.”
