On Aug. 24, 2025, girls wore their Sunday best to the Texas High Performing Arts Center foyer with the determination to learn what it means to be a member of the Rosebuds Junior Garden Club. Every year, this prestigious club hosts an informative tea to welcome new members and their parents to the club.
For many girls at Texas High School, being a Rosebud represents not only tradition, but sisterhood. The club holds their girls to a high standard according to their mission statement, helping them grow into young women with confidence, character, and purpose.
“This is our 69th year of Rosebuds, which was started by Eileen Johnson in 1956,” club president Kateleigh Crowson said. “The club teaches young women how to carry themselves properly and the proper etiquette while strengthening service and sisterhood.”
Certain requirements must be met for sophomore girls to be considered for induction, to ensure that the newest members embody the club’s values. A few core values of Rosebuds Junior Garden Club are centered around sisterhood, service, and inclusion.
“Applicants must have a weighted GPA of 143.0 or higher to be considered as a member of the Rosebud Junior Garden Club,” club advisor Jennifer Guffey said. “Any junior or senior that moves into the district may join at the start of each new year if they meet the membership requirements.”
On Sept. 15, 2025, Rosebuds will hold their first meeting of the school year. At this meeting, new members will be initiated, and the group will discuss upcoming fundraisers throughout the year.
“We will be discussing a community service project for Suicide Prevention Month and celebrating all the new girls’ talent that we’re gaining into our club,” Director of Public Relations and Hospitality Lily McDaniel said. “We all are so excited for our new members to be able to meet their families within Rosebuds at the first meeting.”
