In the newest addition to the Texas High campus, CTE 1, the sounds of excitement and eagerness rise while students travel from table to table.
On Feb. 2, 2025, eighth-graders and underclassmen attended the annual event Experience THS. Previously held in the cafeteria, it took place in the newly opened CTE 1 building this year. Visitors sought insight into future classes, careers and on-campus organizations.
“I explained the health science options available to incoming freshmen, and then the future options available for upperclass grade levels,” health science teacher Stacey Hensley said. “I enjoyed visiting with all the students and their parents. It was a great way to show off our new facilities and make them aware of what we offer here at Texas High School.”
The event itself featured many booths, including those of classes and clubs such as engineering, publications, BPA, student council and other Dual Credit programs.
“Experience THS allowed me to have a first-hand look at the new CTE building,” incoming freshman Stella Davis said. “My favorite part of the evening was walking around the health science building. I received so much advice, and I learned what THS really has to offer.”
Cheerleader Payton Stanford performed at the event and enjoys participating in the Experience THS event each year.
“Cheering at the PAC for the eighth graders is always so fun,” Stanford said. “I love showing them the school spirit of Texas High, and I hope cheer’s performance interested some of the students to try out for our team.”
Students from Texas High contributed to the event by connecting with students and discussing potential future careers.
“I’ve helped with Experience THS for 2 years now, and my favorite part about it is getting to see what students’ interests are and seeing where their high school paths might take them,” Sophomore Zoe Taylor said. “If I could give one piece of advice to incoming high schoolers, it would be to soak every moment up, because your four years go faster than you can blink.”
