Amidst the roaring crowd, the Lady Tigers volleyball team unleashes unstoppable energy, securing victory in every set. Seamless teamwork and fast reflexes turn the court into a showcase of pure skill and precision, leaving opponents in the dust with the fans begging for more.
Every play reflects deliberate passion, and to them, volleyball represents more than just a game — it embodies a mindset. These players grew up together, watched each other develop and will do anything to see each other succeed. They work not as individual players but as one collective unit. As senior night unfolds, Texas High bids farewell to several senior volleyball players, including Kyleigh Perkins, Deja Aubrey, Taryne Stiger and Sydney Woods.
“The strength of this team is that we are a [unified] team,” head coach Melissa Hardy said. “We all have shown up in the summers and been committed to the cause.”
Though the crowd cheers and applauds, players feel an approaching twinge of bittersweet farewells. Assistant coach Robin Holland read each senior’s heartfelt speech aloud as she presented their rewards.
“We just want to present these wonderful women with a small token of appreciation to thank them for the countless hours, dedication and support they’ve given [and] being there in the middle of the night, for loving and guiding their teammates and for making this season so special,” Holland said. “Let’s hear it for our seniors! One last cheer — let’s go!”
As the season comes to an end and the Lady Tigers enter the playoffs, each player can now reflect on what has come of it, the good and the bad. Overall, the season experiences ups and downs, but the team powered through together, securing 24 wins in total.
“I’ve watched all of [my teammates] grow into talented, beautiful people,” Perkins said. “We’ve seen each other through our highest highs and lowest lows.”
Through facing challenges and difficulties, the team evolved into something greater.
“To my teammates, thank you for our time together, for all your dedication, motivation and for making me a better athlete and person,” Stiger said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without your support. You’ve taught me not only to be a better player but also how to grow as a person.”
Each player will be reaching into new horizons, but the memories they made at Texas High will last forever.
“To the seniors, we’ve been a team through it all,” Aubrey said. “From middle school to now, we’ve grown together, laughed together and supported each other. I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I will always cherish these memories.”
This season and its recollections will forever be cherished in the hearts of the team, strengthening them with memories of the past so that they may make new ones in the future.
“I’m so grateful to have shared this journey with all of you,” Stiger said. “The memories we’ve made together are unforgettable, and our book isn’t finished; we’re opening a new chapter.”
