Every day, dozens of people call the school, and there’s always someone to answer. A receptionist remains in charge of this and so much more. The job comes with many obstacles, but this is not a problem for one particular new hire at Texas High School.
Texas High School made many new hires for the 2024-’25 school year, from teachers to principals. This includes a new receptionist at the front desk, Quiana Shavers.
Without having any prior experience working in a school district, Shavers stepped into her role at Texas High and embraced all the responsibilities that came with it.
“No, I did not [work at another school],” Shavers said. “What I did prior to coming to the school is warranty work.”
This may be her first job at a school, but it doesn’t seem that way. Shavers is a natural when it comes to her new job.
“She has been very helpful,” administrative assistant Audrey Maxie said. “She has come in with a lot of knowledge from her previous job that has helped her master the task here at the front desk.”
Shavers has proven herself to be a positive change the school needed.
“I think that the change has been good,” Maxie said. “She jumped right in. I feel like she’s been doing this job, and it’s nothing that has changed, and I’m happy that she’s here.”
Constantly, Shavers proves to be a valuable asset to the staff members at Texas High. Additionally, the change in environment serves a win-win situation for Shavers.
“[I came here for] a change in environment,” Shavers said. “I just wanted something different.”
Shavers expresses her love for her new job, as well as for everyone she works with.
“I love it,” Shavers said. “I love everything about it, from the staff to the students.”
