From bandaging scraped knees to providing a listening ear during tough times, high school nurses and health aides foster a safe and nurturing environment for students. Nurses Robin Keayhey and Stephanie Ford are located in the health office in the front office of the math and science building.
Keayhey started as a nurse in 2001 and acquired her degree at Texarkana College. There are a multitude of benefits to working as a high school nurse, such as providing direct healthcare to students, providing leadership for health services, and promoting a healthy and safe school environment for all.
“I like dealing with teenagers, the fast-paced environment, and not working on the weekends,” Keahey said. “The most challenging part to me is when we see kids that we know need care and aren’t able to get it.”
Keayhey works alongside Health Aide Stephanie Ford. This will be Ford’s fourth year as a health aide, and both of them have also worked together for four years.
“My girls were starting high school and I figured it would be a lot more convenient to be on the same schedule as my girls,” Stephanie Ford said. “[My favorite part] is just getting to know the kiddos that come in here and see us, some of them are regular customers here and we get to know them so I enjoy that.”
While Stephanie and Robin are school nurses, they offer support and guidance to those who need it. Their compassion and dedication create a safe place within Texas High School. So, thank you Robin Keahey and Stephanie Ford for always being there for us with a listening ear.
“My favorite part is getting to see the students grow up through these four years and graduate high school,” Keahey said. “We get to see how much they change and grow.”
