Each day, the sun rises the same as before, but this day proves to be different for the seniors. Cameras flash and chatter erupts as students honor the start of the Texas High annual Senior Sunrise for the class of 2026.
Senior Sunrise took place at Bringle Lake Park at 6 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2025 and served as the kick off for the 2025-2026 school year. Many seniors gathered to watch the sky light up the horizon as they commemorated their last year of high school. The sunrise served as a pivotal moment of friendship and bonding time amongst the senior class, and many students viewed the event as the start of a new season of life.
“We all went on the dock for pictures and then went [to] the hill and watched the sunrise together,” senior Areli Estrada said. “It was super bittersweet [because] it represents a new chapter in our lives.”
High school serves as a good way to meet new people and create lifelong connections. Olivia Jones believes Senior Sunrise acted as a way to bring together all of the people she called family for the past four years.
“Senior Sunrise is a very moving experience [with] the sun rising and the start of something new,” Jones said. “With the Senior Sunset at the end of the year, it’s going to be a very well rounded way to end off our high school experience.”
Senior Sunrise proves to be more than just a yearly gathering, and a time for people to bond with each other.
“Senior Sunrise [was] more than just an event to me,” Estrada said. “It meant seeing how far me and my classmates have come.”
Even though connections are major, centering attention to grades is vital. Jones knows the importance of remaining focused and strong throughout high school and the value of surrounding oneself with supportive friends.
“Take [high school] seriously,” Jones said. “Make sure to do good in school and find a group of people who will be your support system and lift you up. Create your own little family with people who want you to succeed.”
