It was an easy victory for the Texas High as they defeated the Mount Pleasant Tigers on senior night, to close out district and spark confidence entering the playoffs.

“We still have a lot of improvement,” senior wide receiver Dale Williamson said. “We can’t be satisfied. We’ve got to become better every day, every game, every practice, every play, every snap, every minute.

The Tigers started off the first quarter with a strong presence, putting the first points on the board with a 6-yard field goal from junior kicker Ethan Montez.

The second quarter is when the Tiger momentum really began to shift, senior running back Cornelius Zachery scored the first touchdown for the Tigers, with a 3-yard run at the 4:38 mark, resulting in a 10-0 score in favor of the Tigers.

With 2:15 left in the half, junior defensive back Dee Jones intercepted a pass at the 2 yard line and returned the ball 49 yards, putting ball back on the 49-yard line in Tiger Territory.

Following the interception from Jones, junior wide receiver J’Kardi Witcher rushed for 25-yards, setting up the Tigers for an easy touchdown.

Sophomore quarterback Cade Pearson sought out Williamson with an 11-yard pass, resulting in another Tiger touchdown, closing out the half with a score of 17-0 Texas High.

“As long as I gave it my all, this is my last time [at Grimm] with my brothers,” Williamson said. “That’s the only thing that matters.”

Both Mount Pleasant and Texas High started the third quarter slow, but the Tigers picked it back up around the 7:45 mark, with a 3-yard field goal from Montez.

The fourth quarter began with a Tiger touchdown with a 9-yard pass from Pearson to Williamson, followed by a failed two-point conversion attempt, increasing the Tiger lead with a 26-0 score.

Senior kicker Mantas Urniezius scored a field goal with 1:37 left in the game, making the score 29-0.

With less than a minute left on the clock, Mt. Pleasant put points on the board with a touchdown, closing out the game 29-7.

“I’m trying to hold back tears, it’s very emotional,” senior linebacker KJ Reid said. “I’ll never have an experience like playing at Grimm again. I appreciate this opportunity from God, to even be able to have the capability to play my four years here. It’s sad, but I’m just glad we got the win. Thank God for Grimm.”
