Sophomore Braden May, who made the varsity team his freshman year, shares his experiences as as a tennis player.

Q: When did you start playing tennis?
A: In the seventh grade when a tennis racket fell from the sky and hit me in the head. True story.
Q: When did your passion for tennis start?
A: In seventh grade. I started taking lessons and was asked to play a tournament and ever since then I have been playing.
Q: What is it like to be on the Texas High Varsity Tennis team?
A: It is cool. It’s tough and time-consuming, but worth it.
Q: What do you love about tennis?
A: It is a good way to stay in shape. I like to compete and win. When I am playing it gives me an adrenaline rush.
Q: Were you intimidated as a freshman last year trying out for varsity?
A: Yes, because I felt like I had something to prove being a freshman on a team with ten seniors.
Q: Looking back was making varsity your freshman year worthwhile or a good thing for you?
A: Yeah, because I gained a lot of experience and got to play with last year’s seniors.
Q: When you play tennis, does it take you to a different place?
A: Yes, it relieves my stress.
Q: What is your favorite part about being on the team?
A: Getting to travel. Being part of a family, the team.
Q: Favorite memory?
A: Beating Frisco-Wakeland 10-9 because at that point in the year they had been the only team that had beaten us. We had gotten back what we had lost.
Q: Do you have any traditions for tournaments, or when you travel for games?
A: I bring cake balls, brownies and cookies at every tournament. I got the goodies!
Q: Can you elaborate on these cake balls?
A: Well let me tell you, it’s cake rolled into balls. All of my teammates look forward to them.
Q: What do you hope to accomplish with tennis in the following years?
A: I hope to go to Regionals, I mean who doesn’t? State is also a prospect for me. I want to win.

A: I like tennis and cake balls.
