To help build up local families in the community, Hope Mulkey founded Furnished by Faith. Furnished by Faith is a nonprofit organization that is located at 3062 E. 19th Street,Texarkana, AR that provides gently used furniture and household goods to people who have newly transitioned out of homelessness.

“When I first began Furnished by Faith, the Lord taught me many lessons in being patient for His timing,” Mulkey said.

After applicants have their homes evaluated, hand-picked items from the Furnished By Faith’s warehouse are packaged with the help of volunteers from the community.

“If you would like to get involved with Furnished By Faith, we are always needing volunteers at the warehouse and for delivery days. All ages and abilities are welcome,” Mulkey said. “Drop off days are the second Saturday of each month from 8-11 a.m. or Monday-Wednesday by appointment.”

Love is shown in the small details, according to Mulkey and the volunteers.

“We always leave fresh flowers and a Bible on every kitchen table,” Mulkey said. “Nothing is charged, and nothing is expected in return.”

Furnished by Faith started off when Mulkey helped a family of six find beds. Now the organization has a website, social media networks and a supportive church helping her reach her goal.

“My goal with this project is to open the eyes of my community to help those around us in need,” Mulkey said. “The need is always there, but I think so often we just become numb to it or think it’s someone else’s responsibility.”

Everyone could use help sometimes, and that is exactly what Mulkey wants to achieve.

“I really think we were meant for more than just minding our own business,” Mulkey said. “This organization is a way to lend a helping hand to people that are getting back on their feet. It’s a bridge between the people that have and the people who don’t.”
