Physics and STEM Engineering students had a opportunity to get hands-on with their subject matter during their 2nd Annual Auto Show on Monday.
Physics teacher Nathan Upchurch has been working with and teaching the students how physics relates to the fuel efficiency and safety principals of car design. The Auto Show allowed students to communicate and apply scientific information extracted from various sources such as current events, news reports, and marketing materials and draw data related promotional materials for products.
“We are learning about the specifics of the cars,” junior Evan Rodgers said. “We have learned things such as how an eco boost works.”
Car dealerships such as Classic Dodge, Classic GMC, Orr Chevrolet, and Robbins Toyota were featured at the THS Auto Show. Representatives from the dealerships presented information on their showcased vehicles.
“I wasn’t part of the class, but I learned a lot myself,” senior Jahmal Camp said. “The representatives had a lot of information to teach to the students.”
Along with learning about the cars, students had to participate by taking notes and asking questions to develop a presentation at the end of the year about various car designs. The information learned also may help later on in the students’ lives.
“I think this Auto Show influenced me a lot,” junior Maria Gabriel said. “This has taught me how to not use as much gas, and use more electricity with some of the smart cars they offer now.”
