Credit by exam applications due April 2

Texas High, in accordance with state law, is offering students to gain credit through examination.

In order to gain credit by examination, students must first speak with their academic adviser and submit application. Applications are due to the advisers by April 2. Examinations will take place April 7-9.

In order to receive credit, students must achieve a certain score. If students have taken the class, a score of 70 percent or higher must be made, and if they haven’t a score of at least 90 percent is required.

“It’s state law that all schools are required to provide a means for students to receive credit,” director of college and career readiness Mark Schroeder said. “We like it for especially kids that are native speaking students, they can pass the lower level Spanish classes. Or if it’s a student that wants to take the speech class and not use that semester because they want to take another class in its place.”

According to Schroeder, credit by examination is also a way for students who might have lost a credit due to absences that can easily pass the examination without having to attend summer school. Credit by examination is free, while summer school is not.
