Story by Abby Hill, public relations editor

On Sunday, Jan. 31 Texarkana hosted the non-profit Six-Legged Fun Run and 5k in Downtown Texarkana. This race was created as a fundraiser for the Texarkana Animal Care and Adoption Center (TACAC). Participants signed up with their four-legged pet to run or walk.

This fundraiser became a success as many people and their dogs ran (or walked) the 5k. The first three two-legged runners won a medal as well as the first three six-legged participants. Each participant received a t-shirt for themselves and a bib for their furry friend.

If a participant did not have a dog or four-legged friend to join them, TACAC would provide one for the participant to walk during the 5k or fun walk.

Games and booths were set up around the event for dogs and their owners to enjoy. Kids could play in bouncy houses, racers could grab a snow cone from Kona Ice after the race, and dogs could race and play in obstacle courses.

Although this was only the first year for this doggy fun run, it is clear that this joyful event will become an annual bidding for the Texarkana area.
