Every fall, the National Honor Society hosts a “Bear Hunt.” This stuffed animal drive has been a tradition for over 20 years.

“The bears go to children during the holidays as a gift,” NHS sponsor Holly Mooneyham said. “We collect, tag and bag them to disperse.”

The teddy bears are due by Nov. 3 and will then be taken to places such as the Battered Women’s Shelter, Texarkana Baptist Orphanage, Randy Sam’s Homeless Shelter, Watersprings Ranch, the Texarkana Police Department and various daycares.

The stuffed animals can be brought to Rm. 34 or given to any NHS member.

“We hope that, with these bears, we can brighten a child’s day,” Mooneyham said. “I hope it makes them happy and gives them something they can call their own.”
