The Texas HighSteppers traveled to Kilgore on Feb. 18 to compete in the American Dance/Drill Team Gussie Nell Davis Classic. As a team, the HighSteppers took four team dances, three officer dances and seven solos.

After a full day competition, the team received multiple awards: the Gussie Nell Davis and Sweepstakes for both team and officer dances, six Judges’ Choice awards, Best Overall Silver for officer technique and choreography, Best Overall Platinum for team technique, choreography, showmanship and precision, third place Medium Team GPA, fifth place Best in Class officer, fifth place Best in Class Team and overall Best of the Best tenth place out of a total 42 teams that competed.

“I was so proud of how the team did at competition,” senior captain Leighton Weber said. “We had some tough competition, but we held our own. All of our hard work paid off and we performed the best we ever have as a team.”
