The boys basketball team took on the Pine Tree Pirates on Jan. 28 on their own court. After a dominating game, the Tigers took the win with the final score of 87-32.

The Tigers’ defense overpowered the Pirates, giving them control of the game with a 20-point lead after the first quarter.

“We did well mostly because of our defense,” senior Darion Kidd said. “Just defense, hustling, and getting back on defense.”

Not slowing down, they racked up 28 more points. With the team’s offense picking up, the first half ended at 56-20.

“I think I did good, and we had good team chemistry,” Kidd said. “We were swinging the ball, and had an overall good game.”

The Tigers’ defense held the Pirates’ feeble 20 points throughout the third quarter. Knocking down 14 more points to finish out the third, the Tigers remained on top. They brought it home in the fourth quarter with a final score of 87-32.

“I did all right. I’m going to stay humble. It could’ve been better,” senior Jamaal Ray said. “I need to make smarter decisions and don’t get mad at my coach.”

Despite the huge numbers on the board, the team still sees room for improvement in their game.

“We played as a team defensively, but offensively we’ve got to move the ball around and get more shots and get to the hoop,” junior Jarion Anderson said.

With last night’s big win on their record, the boys are now focused on the more difficult, upcoming games against Mt. Pleasant and Marshall, then heading into playoffs.

“It felt pretty good to win, but you’ve got to take advantage of it and prepare for the other games,” Anderson said. “There are going to be more. Whether we win district or not, we’ve just got to work harder and take it one day at a time.”
