Coming off of a playoff victory from last year, the Tiger boys golf team looked for a repeat this year but fell short at the Tiger Classic on Friday and Saturday. Being held at Texarkana Country Club with fresh renovated greens, the course was in prime conditions for playing.

With 16 teams in the tournament, a plethora of results was expected from such teams as Jesuit, McKinney and San Antonio Alamo Heights.

Although conditions were perfect the first day, the Tigers struggled with scoring, but sophomore Matt Prieskorn finished at 2 under par for the day.

Eventually Prieskorn took home the individual title on day two, finishing the tournament with a score of even par.

“The tournament was a huge success,” coach Jay Brewer said. “I’m super happy for Matt Prieskorn winning the individual title.”

The second day began with a shotgun start at 8:30 and saw lots of ups and downs from teams.

“Although the second round was a turn around for my play, it was not nearly enough to make up the ground I lost the first day,” senior Grayson Jones said.

With San Antonio and Flower Mound Marcus finishing the tournament deadlocked with team scores of 605, a sudden death playoff ensued. San Antonio Alamo Heights won the playoff to win the 2015 Tiger Classic.

The Tigers finished at a tie for fifth place with a team score of 621.

“Our team needs more balanced scoring,” Brewer said. “We are just searching hard for four good scores on the same day.”
