The Lady Tigers volleyball team was victorious over Pine Tree High School 3-1 on Oct. 4.

The Lady Tigers had a successful first set with 25-19. However, inexperience led to some repeated mistakes that gave Pine Tree some points.

“I would have to call a timeout to tell my girls that they are hitting us at the same spot,” coach Melissa Trotter-Hardy said. “However, they are a lot better than they were in first half of the season, and that is because they have built confidence, consistency and strength.”

The second set was a narrow loss 22-25 after an intense comeback by Pine Tree. The plays went back and forth as both sides had heated spikes after a long and powerful serve.

“I think we still did well,” sophomore Kaitlyn Cross said. “As long as we stick together, we can beat any opponent.”

The third set was another victory 25-20. Many timeouts were called to change strategy and to counter the opponent’s moves.

“Our girls did very well after they fixed that weak spot,” Hardy said. “It was an intense game and I think our girls matured from it.”

The fourth and final set was a 25-15 sweep by the Tigers.

“Our girls have learned a lot, but they have a lot to go,” Hardy said. “We are better than ever, and we are continuing to improve everyday.”

The freshman and JV had contrasting nights with the freshman team losing 1-2 and the JV team winning 2-0. The Lady Tigers will face Mt. Pleasant Friday.
