The Lady Tigers softball team participated in the Sulphur Springs tournament Feb.15-16. The tournament was cut short due to bad weather, but the Lady Tigers went undefeated in the four games they played.

In their game against Pittsburgh on Thursday they won 8-0, with three home runs, two from junior Mabry Smith and one from sophomore Bailey Groom. They then went on to play Gilmer and won 10-1.

“I’m just trying to do the best I can for my team,” Groom said. “I work as hard as possible and so does everyone else. We’re just going to see where that gets us.”

On Friday the team played Mount Vernon and won 7-0. They also played Pleasant Grove for the first time in a while and won 8-2.

“I think the season will go well. We are 4-0 right now and we have been hitting good,” junior Kylee Spriggs said. “I expect to go to the playoffs this years and hopefully go pretty deep. I think we have the team to do it.”

The girls expect a strong season this year with two more tournaments to go, one in Allen and one in Wiley.

“Our team needs to improve on defense,” Spriggs said. “[Smith] strikes everyone out so our defense gets pretty relaxed and when someone does put the ball in play, we’re all surprised.”

The girls’ next home game will be March 6 against Hallsville for their first district game. Junior varsity plays at 4:30 p.m. and varsity plays at 6 p.m.
