The Tiger tennis team defeated the Lindale Eagles on Thursday afternoon to secure the District 15-5A championship.

The win against Lindale finishes off an undefeated regular season for the tennis team. They hope to ride this success to a spot in the state tournament on Oct. 31.

“It was a great team effort,” coach Toby Watson said. “Everyone did a great job of playing smart and staying focused throughout the matches.”

Despite their newly realigned district, the tennis team was able to breeze through district play. Members of the team credit this success to a difficult non-district schedule.

“Our well-put together teamwork has really helped us to improve,” sophomore Abigail Elliot said. “In practice, we’ll be sure to put our heads together to work on strategies to keep the winning streak going.”

The tennis team will square off in the bi-district round against the John Tyler Lions in Sulphur Springs next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

“Moving forward, you should see everyone on the court fighting for every single point,” senior Connor Elliot said. “We have to earn everything because we won’t be given [anything].”
