The Lady Tigers defeated the Longview Lady Lobos in three straight sets Tuesday, Sept 13, 2022. This win moved the Tiger’s district record to 2-0, tying them for first with Hallsville.

The Lady Tigers got off to a good start offensively in the first set.

Texas played very disciplined in the opening of the set, coming up with two big kills from senior Bella Cherry and freshman Taryne Stiger, adding to their lead early.

The Tiger offense took aggressive swings, making minimal hitting errors, forcing Longview to call a timeout at 14-9.

The Lady Tiger’s defense played scrappy and disciplined, touching a ton of hits from the Lobos.

Longview began to force defensive errors on the Tigers later in the set. Capitalizing on the errors, the Lady Lobos closed the point gap to 22-19.

Junior Cy Hopkins had multiple big kills and a momentum shifting save for the Tigers, and then closed the set 25-22 with a big swing.

The second set got off to a slow start, with both team trading points back and forth.

The Tigers began taking advantage of the open line shots and capitalized on the errors made by Longview allowing them to gain an 11-7 lead over the Lobos.

The Lobos came out with some big swings and, once again, fought back to keep themselves close in the set, giving them the lead, bringing the score to 20-19.

A ball handling error by Longview tied the set at 20, but Texas missed a serve to put the Lobos back on top.

Ultimately, the Tigers came out on top 25-21 after multiple big kills from Cherry and Hopkins, along with scrappy defense to keep the ball in play.

Texas got off to another slow start in the third set, making a few miscommunication errors.

The game was tight in the opening moments, Longview took the first lead of the match.

Tied at six, Cherry produced five of six of the Tiger’s points via kills.

Multiple errors made by Texas wound up returning the lead to the Lady Lobos. However, the Tigers bounced back with a few kills to gain the lead, forcing a timeout for Longview.

A continuation of their strong offense lengthened the lead even more for the Tigers, bringing the score to 23-18. Junior Mally Lumpkin capitalized on an overpass by the Lobos, creating a big kill for the Tigers. The Tigers won the third set 25-21, and the match 3-0.

The Lady Tigers will face the Lady Pirates on Pine Tree at Pine Tree Friday, Sept 16, 2022, in their third district match up.
