Members of Student Council were recognized today for their volunteer work at the Community Cafe at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church.

Seniors Gage Martin, Zach Norton, Maggie Coleman and Robert Hoover attended a  luncheon at the church, along with Leadership sponsor Susan Waldrep.

Member of Student Council volunteer at the cafe every Monday night where they feed 250 people, and 100 families get to go through and shop for groceries, Waldrep said.

About 95 students volunteer there regularly.

“I’ve been helping with Community Cafe since I started Leadership last year,” Martin said. “We usually help with moving some of the heavier things in the warehouse.”

Waldrep said the cafe provides a much-needed service to the community.

“It services a lot of people who don’t get other benefits,” Waldrep said. “A lot of people who work minimum wage jobs and have families run out of money at the end of the month and [Community Cafe] helps them get the food that they need.”
