Reviewed guidelines for NHS

Story by Langley Leverett, editor in chief

B.B. Lawson Chapter of the National Honor Society of secondary schools, under the head of Holly Mooneyham, has reviewed its constitution for the 2017-2018 academic school year. This year, eligibility is decided upon weighted grade point average, and must be higher than 143. Students must have a clean record; no violations of TISD code or visitations to ISS is allowed.

To apply, a candidate must have experience in two leadership roles on campus, two community service projects and one leadership essay. They must also have two recommendation letters written by TISD faculty members.

For current members, dues are $20, and must be paid by Oct. 5. Students must participate in one service project, and other community service events. Students are required to attend a meeting once a month during the school year, and are allowed to miss two meetings before the advisor recommends dismissal.

The order of dismissal travels through the faculty council, and students are guaranteed a hearing before they are deemed unfit to be in NHS.
