Lady Tigers defeat Lady Bulldogs

Lady Tigers win first game of double-header

The Texas High Lady Tigers defeated the Carthage Lady Bulldogs 3-2 in their match on Aug. 23, 2022.

Texas and Carthage went toe to toe in the beginning of the first set. The score was tight with multiple kills back and forth from both teams. 

The Tigers began to fall behind towards the end of the set with miscommunication errors and missed serves. 

The Lady Tigers quickly responded with multiple kills. However, the Lady Bulldogs also responded with several kills and blocks. The Bulldogs took the first set with a score of 28-26. 

Texas ran away in the second set. Multiple kills by senior Bella Cherry and junior Cy Hopkins led the tigers to a 14-5 lead mid-set.

The Tigers continued to play efficiently on the offensive side of the ball, adding more kills, and holding their lead throughout the set. 

With a kill by Hopkins, the Lady Tigers took the second set with a score of 25-15. 

With the momentum change from the first to second set, the Bulldogs and Tigers were now tied in the match, 1-1. 

The third set started with an error by Carthage. The Bulldogs then went on to take the lead early 7-3.

Cherry came up with a huge kill, shifting the momentum to the Texas side. 

With the pace of the game in their hands, several long rallies ended in more Cherry kills, building up the score to give them the lead and ultimately the win 25-20.

The score now being 2-1 with Texas in the lead, Carthage needed to respond quickly to stay in the game. 

The Lady Bulldogs produced  multiple kills and blocks to start the fourth set. Both Texas and Carthage went back and forth, with a score within one point the entire game. 

The set came down to its final moments. Carthage had a kill and a block taking the score to 24-22, but gave the ball back to Texas with a missed serve. The Tigers tried to rally, but errors got the best of them and the Bulldogs took the set with a score of 26-24.

The fifth set began again with both teams exchanging the ball back and forth.

Carthage had the lead until a kill from Hopkins gave Texas the score 12-11. Both teams were still scrambling through long rallies.

Multiple errors from the Bulldogs and a remarkable kill by Hopkins gave the Lady Tigers the overall win after 5 sets, 15-12.
