The Texas High Lady Tigers defeated the Prairiland Patriots 3-0 in their match Tuesday, Aug. 30.

The game started off strong for Texas, with a kill by Senior Bella Cherry. With the energy on the side of the Tigers, the patriots were struggling to respond.

Prairiland had several net violations and doubles, handing the ball back to Texas for most of the set. These errors led to an 11-6 Texas lead mid set.

Texas outplayed Prariland and took the first set with a score of 25-13.

Junior Cy Hopkins set the tone at the start of the second set with a 6 point service run. Multiple errors by the Patriots again handed the ball to Texas for most of the set.

Cherry added multiple kills to keep the game in their hands. Texas continued playing with minimal errors and an efficient offense all the way through the set.

The Lady Patriots were unable to respond quick enough to the Lady Tigers offense. This gave Texas the set with a score of 25-12.

The Tigers had a 2-0 lead going into the 3rd set.

Texas struggled a little in the beginning of the 3rd set. However, they quickly overcame their errors with multiple kills taking the lead 17-10.

The tigers were consistent with their skill and took the set and the win 25-16.

This was a big win for the Lady Tigers after tough losses in their tournament this past weekend.

“We prepared for this game by really working on the things we have been struggling with,” Cherry said. “We are going to prepare for the tournament by [looking at] our game from tonight for things we can improve on.”

Cherry led the team with 16 kills and also had 9 assists. Junior Mally Lumpkin had 7 kills and Hopkins followed with 5 kills and 19 assists.

Texas will travel to Whitehouse to play in a tournament Sept 2-3.
