Texas pulls out victory in close match to end the first round of district

The Lady Tigers defeated Mt. Pleasant in a close five set match, furthering their record to 6-1. 

The entire match was slow paced, with little to no momentum shifts. Both teams traded points back and forth throughout the entire game, keeping the game close throughout its duration.

In the first set, Mt. Pleasant took an early lead, capitalizing on errors made by Texas. Despite their errors, Texas took the lead.

Texas pulled away with a 20-16 lead, forcing a Mt. Pleasant timeout. 

Junior Cy Hopkins came up with two big kills for Texas, creating a little energy for the team.

The game was chaotic for both teams, offensively and defensively, with multiple communication errors. 

Texas was able to overcome Mt. Pleasant’s weak offense took the first set 25-19.

The second set continued on the slow paced trend. Texas produced unforced eros, giving Mt. Pleasant a big 6-1 lead early. 

Mt. Pleasant held the lead through the majority of the second set, taking advantage of the defensive errors made by Texas. 

Texas came back and tied the game at 15. 

Mt. Pleasant’s block defense kept the Texas offense at bay, not allowing them to create any momentum. 

Senior Bella Cherry had a huge kill to end the set, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead with a 25-21 win in the second set.

Mt. Pleasant came out strong in the opening of the third set, taking the lead early. 

Texas was overcome with their own errors in the third set, giving Mt. Pleasant the game 27-25. 

Errors carried over into the fourth set for Texas, once again handing the game to Mt. Pleasant with another close score of 25-23.

Texas finally pulled themselves together in the fifth set, cutting out some of their unforced eros, and taking the set with a score of 15-9.

It wasn’t pretty, but the Tigers pulled out the win 3-2, putting their record at 6-1. 

The Tigers will face the Whitehouse Lady Bobcats to kick off the second round of district Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, at the Tiger Center.
